Miy Wall Art Decor Project: "Fabulous Floral Photo Picture Frames"

Skill: This miy Photo frame project is of moderate skill.
Hands-on time: Under two hours.
Total time:Plus a couple of hours of drying time for the image transfer process.

Materials & Tools:
•3 unfinished wooden picture frames with glass centre panes, 4” x 6” inches (dollar store)
•A clean cloth
•Medium-grit sandpaper and a tack cloth
•White acrylic paint and paintbrush
•3 floral images, 4” x 6” inches
•Pencil, steel ruler, and a cutting mat
•Scissors or a craft knife
•Image Transfer Kit by Tilano Fresco (or similar product)
•A plastic cup and water
•10 Small, steel eye hooks
•Wire or ribbon, 12 inches
MATERIALS ARE AVAILABLE AT HARDWARE AND ABOVE MENTIONED STORES
Miy Instructions:

Take the picture frames apart, removing the glass panes. Thoroughly clean the glass on both sides.Lightly sand the wooden frame and wipe it with a tack cloth. Since the transfer process works best on light-colored surfaces, apply a base coat on the frames using white acrylic paint, and let dry.

Measure the side edges of the frame and the centre glass pane. Make sure that your images or art work fit over the frames and the centre panes. If you are using a colored computer printout, make a printout by placing two of the same floral images side-by side; one for the frame and a cropped one for the center pane on the same paper. Next take your printout, art work or images saved on a CD to a copy center, and have them make mirrored color laser copies on the shinny side of the Tilano paper; one for each picture frame.

Shake the Tilano medium, and then apply a thin layer, using quick, even strokes of the foam brush to cover the laser color copies. To prevent smears, do not overwork. Let the images dry for 30 minutes.

Using scissors or a craft knife, cut the excess paper surrounding your images, checking that they still fit properly onto the glass panes and frames.

Shake the Tilano medium, and then use the foam brush to spread a generous amount evenly onto the glass pane. Immediately apply the image face down. Use the spreader to flatten the image over the glass, pressing from the centre out to remove any air bubbles. Wipe excess medium off with a damp cloth. Repeat these steps for each glass pane and wooden frame, cleaning the spreader between each. Let the items dry flat for 2 hours.

To reveal the images, apply water over the paper’s surface with the foam brush. (Do one at a time.) When paper becomes transparent (in 30 to 45 seconds), lift and peel it off gently from one corner. Let dry for 30 minutes.

Seal the images with a thin, even coat of Tilano medium. Let dry for 30 minutes.

Measure 1 inch in from either side of the top and bottom of each frame and mark the placements for the eye hooks with a pencil. Install the eye hooks, and then link all the frames together. Secure the glass panes back into the frames. Dress the top of the upper frame with ribbon or wire.

Miy Variations: The Image Transfer Kit also works well on porcelain, china, tiles, metal, concrete, walls, assorted furniture, greeting cards, and even scrapbooking projects.

Miy Tips: The Tilano Imaging paper is formulated for toner-based laser copies (not inkjet printers).

I recommend that you place extra pictures where there is space on the transfer paper and use these for testing in order to get familiar with the process.
